Another Windows update has led to a frustrating issue for users, this time involving Windows Hello. Following the April 2025 security update (KB5055523), many have found themselves locked out of their devices due to a new bug. This problem primarily affects those using Windows 11 24H2 and Windows Server 2025 who have enabled Dynamic Root of Trust for Measurement (DRTM) or System Guard Secure Launch, particularly when they opt for the “Reset this PC” feature and choose “Keep my Files.”
Instead of the expected face or PIN-based login, users encounter error messages like “Something happened, and your PIN isn’t available” or “Sorry, something went wrong with face setup.” This situation has left many users frustrated as they attempt to regain access to their accounts.
Microsoft is currently providing workarounds rather than an official fix. Affected users can follow the “Set my PIN” prompt on the login screen to re-enroll in Windows Hello. For those who use facial recognition, they will need to navigate to Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options > Facial recognition to configure it again.
While these workarounds can help, the inconvenience of being unable to log in with a PIN is understandably distressing for many. Additionally, this Windows Hello issue comes alongside other headaches tied to the same update, including a separate bug that caused some PCs to uninstall Copilot, which has been described as one of the more fortunate bugs in recent memory. As of now, there is also a safeguard hold on devices running SenseShield’s sprotect.sys driver, triggering blue or black screen errors. Users are hopeful for a formal fix soon, but at least there are ways to regain access, despite the annoyance.
