Microsoft is in the process of moving additional features from the outdated Control Panel to the more contemporary Settings app in Windows 11. This transition is currently being tested in preview build 26276 for Windows Server 2025, with an expected rollout for Windows 11 in upcoming previews and a final version to follow.
Currently, users can adjust pointer speed and accuracy from the Settings app, which falls under the “Bluetooth and devices” > “Mouse” section. Additionally, modifications for pointer visibility, such as changing color and size—like using neon yellow for better visibility—can be made in the Accessibility tab.
New Options in Accessibility Settings
The update aims to transfer more mouse options that were previously only available in the Control Panel to the Settings app. Users will gain access to various adjustable mouse icons used in different situations, such as during window loading or enlargement. Earlier, alternative designs were only accessible through a list in the Control Panel, but the new Settings app is designed to offer a clearer interface for these adjustments.
Furthermore, users will have the capability to toggle pointer shadow effects and set the timing for recognizing double clicks. The new options enable customization of mouse tracking distances, which provide a visual trail by displaying additional pointers for mouse movements shortly after they occur.
These new features in the server preview build are also reflected under the Accessibility tab, with similar enhancements anticipated in Windows 11 in the coming weeks. In the long run, Microsoft has plans to eliminate the Control Panel altogether.
