System76, the Linux hardware vendor, has unveiled the latest generation of the Darter Pro ultrabook. This Linux-powered machine features Intel Core Ultra processors with Intel Arc graphics and an upgraded display, along with a host of other improvements.
The Darter Pro has seen its first update in over three years from System76. The new version of this Linux-powered notebook now includes Intel Core Ultra 5-125H or Intel Core Ultra 7-155H processors. These are combined with integrated Intel Arc graphics, clock speeds of up to 4.8 GHz, a cache of up to 24MB, and a CPU with up to 16 cores and 22 threads. The Darter Pro also comes with these advanced features.
The new Darter Pro laptop has a range of attractive features. This includes up to 96GB dual-channel DDR5 5600 MHz RAM and up to an 8TB M.2 PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD for storage. There’s also a backlit chiclet US QWERTY configurable keyboard with two size options, stereo speakers, a 1.0MP 720p HD webcam, a charger with the capacity of 90 Watts, and a 73 Wh Li-Ion battery offering a life of up to 9 hours.
One of the most exciting aspects of the new Darter Pro is the options for the display. For the first time, you can purchase the Darter Pro with a 16:10 display. Options for this model include either a 14-inch or a 16-inch matte display. The displays on offer have Full HD+ (1920×1200) resolution, a 16:10 aspect ratio, and a wide view angle.
The new Darter Pro Linux laptop features connectivity options like a Gigabit Ethernet RJ45 port, WiFi 6E, Bluetooth 5, two Thunderbolt 4 (Type-C) ports, one of which has DisplayPort, an HDMI port, a USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A port, a USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A port, a microSD card reader, and a 3.5mm headphone/microphone combo audio jack.
You can purchase the Darter Pro from System76’s online store. It is encased in the same aluminum body with a silver color, and prices start at $1,199.00 USD for the base model. This model features a 14-inch display, Intel Core Ultra 5-125H CPU, 16GB DDR5 4800 MHz RAM, and a 500GB M.2 PCIe 4.0 SSD.
The Darter Pro comes preinstalled with System76’s Pop!_OS Linux distribution. You can also order it with Ubuntu 22.04 LTS (Jammy Jellyfish). Like all other System76 laptops, it features the System76 Open Firmware (Coreboot, EDK2, System76 Firmware Apps) and System76 Open Source Embedded Controller Firmware.
