The Solus development team has released Solus 4.7, the latest ISO snapshot of this independent rolling-release Linux distribution. This new version features significant upgrades, including the Linux 6.12 LTS kernel, as well as desktop environments like GNOME 47.3, KDE Plasma 6.2.5, Xfce 4.20, and Budgie 10.9.2.
Dubbed “Endurance,” Solus 4.7 comes more than three months after the previous release, Solus 4.6, and integrates the latest Mesa 24.3 graphics stack. One of the noteworthy aspects of this release is the enhanced support for NVIDIA GPUs, particularly for the RTX 4000 series, which offers users improved graphics capabilities right out of the box.
The Solus team emphasizes the use of GNOME Software and Plasma Discover as recommended package managers, encourging users to move away from the traditional Solus Software Center. This shift promotes out-of-the-box support for Flatpaks and improved app descriptions via Appstream metadata. David Harder, a developer at Solus, highlighted the advantages of these new Software Centers, stating they provide better functionality and user experience.
In addition to the updated environments, Solus 4.7 includes other component upgrades such as Mozilla Firefox 134.0.2, Mozilla Thunderbird 128.6.0, and LibreOffice 24.8.4, ensuring users have the latest tools at their disposal.
The Solus 4.7 ISO is available for download for 64-bit systems on the official Solus website. Current users can seamlessly upgrade their installations as Solus continuously delivers updates within its rolling-release framework.
