Sigil, the open-source EPUB ebook editor, has reached version 2.4, enhancing its features and fixing several bugs. This update enables the application to be built from source while utilizing virtual Python environments on Linux and Windows platforms.
New features in Sigil 2.4 include a GetInfo dialog and a right-click menu option for XHTML files, allowing users to view specific file information such as word count without generating reports. Additionally, it introduces support for multiple semantics within an XHTML file—a feature that is technically permissible but rarely used.
The update also improves the Well-Formed (sanity check) functionality to better detect missing attribute quotes and modifies the Replacement Chooser dialog to incorporate checkboxes for identifying whether replacements should be made without deletes.
Furthermore, the release streamlines the application-building process and improves documentation for Linux users. Bug fixes were implemented to enhance load warning readability and whitespace handling within the TagLister code. The update eliminates XHTML meta charset information upon converting to UTF-8 on initial load to prevent encoding errors.
