NVIDIA 570 Linux Graphics Driver: Enhancing Multi-Monitor Experiences with VRR Support

Deluxe company -

NVIDIA has released the beta version of its 570 graphics driver for Linux, FreeBSD, and Solaris, introducing several new features and enhancements. A key highlight of this driver is the support for Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) on multi-monitor setups, aimed at improving the gaming experience.

The NVIDIA 570 series includes several notable improvements, such as:

  • Dynamic Boost Status: Users can query the status of this feature.
  • Compatibility Enhancements: There is now support for 32-bit applications within the NVIDIA GBM backend.
  • New Kernel Parameter: A new conceal_vrr_caps parameter has been added, allowing displays to use features like Ultra Low Motion Blur (ULMB), albeit with some compatibility caveats.

Additionally, the driver series supports the systemd suspend-then-hibernate method, facilitates the observation of all driver files for container runtime environments, and includes performance improvements for popular games like Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and Assassin’s Creed Mirage.

The nvidia-settings control panel has also been updated to utilize NVML for controlling GPU clocks and fan speeds on Wayland systems, with GPU overclocking now enabled by default for compatible GPUs.

Other updates in this driver include:

  • Support for the VK_KHR_incremental_present extension in Vulkan.
  • Default enabling of the nvidia-drm fbdev=1 option.
  • Disabling a power-saving feature related to Ada and later NVIDIA GPUs in certain API contexts.

The NVIDIA 570 driver series is also designed to enhance compatibility with the Linux 6.11 and 6.12 LTS kernels, along with various bug fixes to elevate the overall user experience. For those interested in testing, the NVIDIA 570.86.16 beta driver can be downloaded from the official NVIDIA website, but it’s advised not to use it in production environments. For stable performance, users should stick to the previously established NVIDIA 565 or 550 driver series.
