Noteworthy additions in 4MLinux 48.0 include the Kino IEEE 1394 DV non-linear video editor and the VVenC H.266/VVC encoder, along with the FreeTube YouTube client and the Bristol emulator for musical instruments. Users will find a robust software selection featuring LibreOffice 25.2, GIMP 2.10.38, Mozilla Firefox 137, Google Chrome 135.0, and Wine 10.4, among others.
Underneath it all, 4MLinux 48.0 is built on Linux kernel 6.12 LTS and the Mesa 24.3.3 graphics stack. The server variant, 4MServer, has also seen upgrades, including core components like BusyBox 1.36.1, varied versions of Python, and Ruby 3.4.1.
The release encourages users of 4MLinux 47.0 to transition to the newest version, as the previous release is now deemed “old stable,” and support for 4MLinux 46.0 has concluded.
