Today marks the release of Archinstall 2.8.2, the latest iteration of the official menu-based installer for Arch Linux. This version focuses on enhancements in performance and squashing bugs.
The second update of the Archinstall 2.8 series, version 2.8.2, brings improvements such as using /mirrors/status/json/ for mirror listings to replace /mirrorlist/, thereby expediting the mirror load and download processes during installations.
This update also includes modifications like new filename conventions and syntax updates for Limine 8.x, revisions in the parse_unspecified_argument_list function within the archinstall module to enhance the Argument Parsing Logic, and better validation of user permissions for the --help command.
Additionally, Archinstall 2.8.2 achieves lossless image optimization by employing oxipng/svgo, which conserves about 40KB, and adjusts the os.execve call to occur after the debug log statement, which assists in enabling debug logging before terminating child processes.
Archinstall 2.8.2 addresses several issues found in previous versions such as mount order problems and the sequence of encrypt and sd-encrypt in mkinitcpio.conf. It also eliminates a deprecated function call in the DesktopProfile class.
Further development on the Curses menu, initially introduced in Archinstall 2.8.1, continues in this update. Enhancements include a text input menu, scrolling capabilities for preview sections, options for menu alignment to the right or center, among other modifications.
